Water Care Simplified

Let’s face it, if you have great water, you will use and enjoy your spa a lot more. Most people tend to over-think water care, or get stressed if the test strip is not perfect. Here is the secret, it just needs to be close, if it looks good and smells good, it’s probably good!

Bring in about two cups of water from your hose and we can test your water, you will get a report on how much water care products that you need to get your spa up and running.

Quick Tips

  • Turn on your jets when adding water care product, and let it run for one cycle.
  • If possible, leave the cover half open after adding water care products, close when the cycle is over.
  • Wait to use your hot tub at lease 30 minutes after adding Metal Gone.
  • Wait to use your hot tub at lease 2 hours after adding chlorine.

Start-up

One bottle of Metal Gone. This protect you heater, motors, and pump shafts.
Add about 1 tablespoon of chlorine for every 300 gallons of water.
Add about 1 1/2 oz. of Unique OR about 1 tablespoon of non-chlor shock.
(We prefer Unique because it is non-chlor shock and a water clarifier all in one bottle.)
Balance the alkalinity, the report will indicate about how much to add.
Balance the PH, the report will indicate about how much to add.
Balance the calcium hardness*. If you have city water, you will need to add about 1 1/2 cup.

Optionally add about 1/2 cup Simply Soft AFTER alkalinity and PH are in-line. Simply Soft helps lock in alkalinity and PH for about a week.

*Note: High levels of calcium can lead to scaling and buildup that is difficult to remove, low levels of calcium can lead to corrosion on fittings, pump shafts, and heaters.

Daily

Chlorine is one component that keeps you water clean, but it evaporates every 24 hours. Algae can develop within 48 hours, so it’s important to add 1-2 teaspoons of chlorine everyday.

It is also recommended to add 1 teaspoon per person when you get out of your spa for the evening.

An alternative to adding chlorine daily is a “floater” that slowly dissolves chlorine tablets.

Weekly

Balance the alkalinity based on the color on your test strip.
Balance the PH based on the color on your test strip.
Add about 1 1/2 oz. of Unique OR about 1 tablespoon of non-chlor shock.
If you are using the “floater” add three chlorine tablets.
Check the calcium hardness. It usually stays the same unless you needed to add water.

Finally add about 1/2 cup Simply Soft (yes, still optional!)

Once you get in a routine this will weekly process takes only about 5 minutes.
